A lot of factors go into Machinio’s search rankings, but by following the tips outlined in this first installment of our Listing Optimization Series you'll be able to create more opportunities for your listings to match buyers' searches.
Critical information for listing optimization
Here at Machinio we are experts at using technology to connect buyers and sellers which is why we are the largest global platform for buying and selling machinery and equipment. Buyers come to Machinio looking for equipment like yours, make sure they can find it by optimizing your listings.
We crawl inventory directly from the websites of many of our clients. If this is the case for your listings, ensure that the information is available on your website in the same format that you'd like it to be displayed on Machinio.
Listing title
A vital step in improving your listing’s visibility is to use the best possible words to describe the machine you are selling. The best way to do this is by writing short, search friendly, easy to understand titles. Think like a buyer. What words would you search when looking for the machine you are posting? Clearly describe your machine through your listing’s title.
A good format to follow is:
[year] [manufacturer] [model]
2015 BOBCAT S450
While not necessary, including a short descriptor in your title could potentially help with ranking and general findability of a listing. Including a short descriptor would look like:
[year] [manufacturer] [model] [short descriptor]
2015 BOBCAT S450 SKID STEER
Specs (specifications)
Including all relevant specs will increase the likelihood of your listing matching a buyer’s search. By providing as many details as you can you are creating the opportunity for your listings to include relevant keywords that will lead buyers to your listing. Below is a chart going over all of the specs.
Important Machinio specifications | |
---|---|
Specs | Description |
Manufacturer and Model | For instance: BOBCAT (manufacturer) and S450 (model). |
Condition | By default we crawl machinery as used, make note on your listing if the machinery is “new”. |
Location | It is important to indicate the location clearly. Generally the combination of country and city get the best results. |
Price | Listings that include the price receive more qualified buyers. |
Categories | There are two types of categories, main and subcategories. There can only be one main category but there can be multiple sub categories. For example, your main category can be construction equipment and your sub categories could be sub 1: excavator, sub 2: crawled excavator |
Description | The description should be used for anything you are not able to include in specs. Some examples are: working hours, brand, size, etc. |
Additionally, including all relevant specs lowers the barrier to purchase. As a buyer, wouldn’t you be more inclined to reach out to a seller if all the relevant information is included from the start vs. the seller you would need to go back and forth with?
